Woodstock Continues Success at Plantation Field International!

Once again Plantation Field International put on a spectacular show this past weekend, being graciously hosted by our friends Katie and Cuyler Walker, who continue to set the bar with attracting fabulous sponsors, prizes and a record number of entrants.

Woodstock has 5 horses competing this weekend, with three in the 2* (Frankie, Dday and Classic) and two in the 1* (Wallaby and Bennett).  All the horses rose to the occasion this weekend, scoring in the 40's in dressage and jumping like stars.

The 2* was a hotly contested division with a record number of 70 entries.  Fernhill Classic, owned by the Fernhill Classic Syndicate,  had his best dressage to date scoring a 44, and ultimately finishing in 15th, proving his competitiveness at the international level.
Fernhill Classic

Dday, owned by Curran and Margy Simpson, stepped back up to the 2* level, laying down a nece dressage test and cruising around the stadium and XC very consistently, to finish just in front of Classic in 14th place!
Dday!
Frankie, owned by Steve and Karri Guy, continues to prove his reliability at the 2* level, jumping like a cat around cross country, where I allowed him to pick his pace and run without pressure, saving the accelerator for our next challenge at Fair Hill International. Finishing 11th wrapping up a very successful weekend in the 2*!
Frankie
Our younger horses stepped up to their first run at the 1* level, and did not disappoint! Woodstock Wallaby, a 6 year old Irish Sport Horse owned by Mark and Linda Ledray,  scored an impressive 42 in dressage at his first 1*.  He jumped around a very technical show jumping track designed by Marc Donovan, before adding just a few time penalties to his cross country and finishing 12th out of 56 competitors.
Woodstock Wallaby
Woodstock Bennett, owned by Curran and Margy Simpson, stepped up to his first 1* like a seasoned campaigner, finishing 2nd on his dressage score of a 40.10, proving that at the age of 6, he has a real upper level future.
Woodstock Bennett
The record number of entrants and increasing sponsor and spectator presence is a reflection of the efforts of everyone involved.  I want to thank again all of my owners, sponsors and team members who rallied to make this another great event for Team Woodstock.
Ryan receiving the 2nd Place award from Sally Glassman!

I feel it's necessary that I comment on the problems the 3* division experienced at the water complex, which eventually resulted in the removal of that question from the course.  12 horses and/or riders fell in the 3 star which was over 25% of the starters on xc. Something should have been done after the second fall, the hesitation to react was a failure on behalf of the Ground Jury and the technical delegate. The horses that fell at the water were punished for doing their job.   The FEI Code of Conduct,  "the welfare of the horse is paramount", failed both the horses and riders in the 3* division.

The Young Horses Impress at Bucks County!

Shannondale Nimbus
Another 4am start for the team at Woodstock eventing, taking 7 top class young horses out to Bucks County Horse Trials. I rode 6 horses in total:  three in the training and three in the beginner novice. Chris rode the Pony stallion 'Popeye' in the training as well.

Interesting fact, 4 of the 6 horses I rode this weekend are all by the same sire, Shannondale Sarco, who is currently the number one sire of Jumpers and Eventers in Ireland.
All the horses put in an awesome performance today. So proud of the two babies, Shannondale Tito and Shannondale Nimbus, both owned by Chimene Evans. The two of them rocked around their first event and are looking very promising for the future. Nimbus placed 2nd, closely followed by his half brother Tito in 3rd (Tito's video clip below).

Nimbus
In the beginner novice we also had Julia Jenkins, Vamos a Ver, who was also competing for the first time. He put in a classy performance finishing on his dressage score and into 5th place.

Popeye and Powell, both owned by Illona English of Summit Sport horses, also had stellar finishes. Powell, who finished 2nd, continues to step up to the plate showing his elegance in the dressage and effortless jumping abilities. Popeye continues to impress with his small stature, yet big ability to make the training today look easy. Popeye finished 7th among some top competitors.

After a spill left Charlotte out of the saddle for a few weeks, I took over the reins on Mighty Midas, who is also by Shannodale Sarco. He put in a good effort finishing forth on his dressage score in his first training. And is proving to be a top class horse with a bright future.  I also competed my own, Shannodale Sergio, in the training. After being the top young jumper at Millstreet as a 3 year old, he is continuing to prove his abilities to be a top competitor. He was tied for 1st after dressage and ended up second after coming in just 2 seconds fast. None the less, he put in a foot perfect effort.

We're gearing up for an exciting fall with the upper level horses, and are looking forward to our next outing competing in the CIC2* at Plantation Fields.

Classic Redemption!!

It was whirlwind weekend at Loudoun Horse Trials, with 7 horses entered in the Prelim divisions, all with Ryan in the tack!  With the new FEI rules, there were a few more qualifications to check off, so Woodstock Eventing set off to achieve the impossible, and pulled off a weekend of major successes!

For Fernhill Classic it was a weekend of Classic Redemption!

"After Richland I went back to the drawing board and wanted to get things straight before Plantation at the end of September.  I took Classic back a level and ran around the prelim at Loudoun and he won!"

There was just as much satisfaction with the performances from the other horses entered that day.
Dday, owned by Curran & Margy Simpson, also dropped down a division in order to qualify for Plantation.  He won the dressage, jumped clear in SJ and cantered around at a nice pace on XC.  Without the pressure of going for time, he still finished 2nd!

Woodstock Wallaby, owned by Mark & Linda Ledray, was 2nd in his dressage on a 28, show jumped clear, added a few time penalties on XC and finished 2nd at his 4th prelim.  This is his 3rd second this season & we're hoping for win at Plantation!

Woodstock Bennett, also owned by  Curran & Margy Simpson, was 3rd after dressage, had one down in SJ & 2 uncharacteristic run outs on XC to  finish 8th.  "He's won his last 2 prelims, but the Loudoun course was a bit challenging for the greener horses.  We just didn't get our rhythm on this course, which surprised Bennett a bit on the beginning on the course & he didn't have the opportunity to get confident."
The Coffin
Summit Sport Horses were turning heads all day.  Grand Traverse was 3rd place in his Prelim division, getting edged out by his 1/2 sister Illiniza, who placed 2nd in her first attempt at Prelim, finishing on her dressage score.

Mary Hazzard's Magic Replica impressed with a double clear XC, climbing up the ranks to finish in 4th place!

A big thank you to Stacey, Mary and Charlie who put in a massive effort to get the horses ready and cooled off after XC, making the impossible possible.  Thank you to Victoria Fox (Loudoun's secretary) who made it all possible to bring these horses down to qualify for our next big event at Plantation Field in less than 3 weeks!

"I'm feeling good about what we needed to do for a good result at Plantation and I look forward to seeing you there!"
