Ryan recently undertook an interesting assignment, and one that is not often covered by the sport of eventing. He was asked by Anne Rawle of Watermark Farm, Oxford, Pa., to ride & prepare their stallion, Avebury WF, for his AWB stallion inspection.
Watermark Farm's rich history of breeding began in 1965, when Bill Rawle helped Al Steiert import the Hanoverian weanling colt Abundance from Germany. In the mid 1970’s Abundance moved to Watermark Farm to stand at stud for several seasons. Anne and Bill selected the finest available Thoroughbred mares and the first generation of offspring was produced. Read more on Watermark Farm's history.
According to Anne Rawle, "The American Warmblood Registry operates slightly differently from the European registries. It does not ask owners to surrender care, custody and control during any stage of the licensing process. My stallion Avebury WF just completed his lifetime licensing requirements for this registry, which took several years."
"We first presented him in hand, at liberty and free jumping. He then was granted a provisional license to breed, and was required to produce first premium (7.0 or higher) foals. He then fulfilled his final licensing requirement with my rider on the flat, over fences and cross country for the team of examiners. In this case my rider is Ryan Wood, a four star event rider based at Philip Dutton's True Prospect Farm."
